Music In Mills Pond Park

The Bus Drivers, a band that likes to mix classic rock, blues rock and “a little bit of country music,” according to its website, takes the stage in Mills Pond Park Thursday evening, July 15, for Week 2 of the Canton Parks and Recreation Summer Concert Series.

Guitarist and lead vocalist Jeff Przech says he will be joined by bass guitarist and vocalist Joe O’Brien, drummer Mike Keyes and guitarist and vocalist Nano Sciucco. The concert is scheduled to run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on an evening that is expected to be free of precipitation.

The Bus Drivers will be coming off a Wednesday evening, July 14, performance in New Hartford’s Brodie Park.

The concert series returns to downtown Collinsville on July 22 for the acoustic blues/Americana sounds of the Dan Stevens Trio.

Collinsville Rocks

Some of Canton’s younger students might have had to look twice to believe who was churning out the classic rock Thursday evening, July 8, from the porch of the Canton Historical Museum in Collinsville. Three Canton educators were among the four members of “The Substitutes,” who kicked off the Canton Parks and Recreation Summer Concert Series.

Patrick Allen, a sixth-grade teacher at Canton Intermediate School, Erik Perotti, a fourth-grade teacher at the same school, and Andy Robbin, the principal at Cherry Brook Primary School, were joined by Perotti’s brother, Dave, for the 90-minute performance.

There’s more rock on tap next Thursday, July 15, when The Bus Drivers continue the summer series, this time in Mills Pond Park.

In addition to performing as members of The Substitutes, Allen and Robbin also entertain regularly as a duo. Robbin says he enjoys the “full sound” of a full band, but he also likes the options available while performing as a twesome.

“A duo can focus more on vocals … on harmony,” he said. “And you can interact more with the audience and be more responsive to their needs.”

Allen and Robbin will appear with The Substitutes at Blue Back Square in West Hartford on Friday, July 23, and at the Swingin’ Parrott Pub in Winsted on Saturday, Oct. 23. They will perform as a duo at the Collinsville Farmer’s Market on Sunday, Sept. 19.
