The price of unleaded regular (self-serve) gasoline declined again on Tuesday, June 28, and was down to $3.91/9 just before 2 p.m. at four of the five stations we monitor on Route 44 in Canton, Avon and Simsbury. That’s a 6 cents per gallon change since the last adjustment on Saturday, June 25.

For the first time since April 10, unleaded regular (self-serve) gasoline has dropped below $4 a gallon in Canton. In fact, the price on Saturday, June 25, was $3.97/9 a gallon at all five stations we monitor on Route 44 in Canton, Avon and Simsbury.

The previous price change had occurred on Tuesday, June 21, when the price dropped 6 cents per gallon to $4.01/9.

Prices also changed in New Hartford on Saturday, with the Citgo station on Route 44 down 11 cents to $3.87/9.

The per-gallon price of unleaded regular (self-serve) gasoline at the five stations we monitor on Route 44 in Canton, Avon and Simsbury moved Tuesday, June 21, for the first time since June 9, declining 6 cents per gallon at each to a price of $4.01/9.

The 4.01/9 price makes these five stations unusually competitive with the two stations we watch in New Hartford, where gasoline is often 10 cents a gallon or more less expensive.

The new price is the lowest at the five Canton-Avon-Simsbury stations since April 13. April 10 was the last time gasoline was under $4 a gallon at these five stations.

The five stations we watch on Route 44 in Canton, Avon and Simsbury shaved another four cents off the per-gallon price of unleaded regular (self-serve) gasoline on Thursday, June 9, lowering the price at all five to 4.07/9.

That is a positive development, but it is worthwhile noting that the price for gasoline in this area is as much as 27 cents a gallon more expensive than in Torrington. The four or five stations we saw there on Thursday were selling unleaded regular for $3.80/9 to $3.85/9, the lowest of $3.80/9 at the Cumberland Farms Gulf on East Main Street.

The per-gallon price for unleaded regular (self-serve) gasoline at the five stations we monitor on Route 44 in Canton, Avon and Simsbury dropped four cents Wednesday, June 8.

It remains to be seen whether the recent downward trend in prices will continue. OPEC talks have broken down without an agreement to raise output, causing the price of oil futures to rise, though they currently remain below price levels that were seen in April.

Wednesday’s four-cent dip brought the price at these five stations to 4.11/9, 24 cents off the highs they established most recently on May 11. The two stations we watch in New Hartford were 13 cents per gallon cheaper on Wednesday.

For the first time in two weeks, there has been a drop in the per-gallon price for unleaded regular (self-serve) gasoline at the five stations we monitor on Route 44 in Canton, Avon and Simsbury. The six-cent per gallon decline on Saturday, June 4, put the price at $4.15/9 at each of the five stations. It was the first price change at these stations since May 21.

We also checked out two additional stations farther east in Avon on Route 44 and included them in this report. These are the numbers we spotted early Saturday afternoon, June 4.

For the first time since mid-April, the lowest price of gasoline at the seven stations we monitor along Route 44 was below $4 a gallon on Wednesday, June 1. The Citgo station at 513 Main St. (Route 44) in downtown New Hartford was at $3.99/9 late Wednesday afternoon.

Although the prices have been declining at the two stations we watch in New Hartford, the price at the other five stations on our list hasn’t moved since May 21.
