Gallery Of Trees At Museum

By mid-afternoon on Tuesday, Nov. 17, participants in the second annual Gallery of Trees had delivered 27 decorated specimens to the Canton Historical Museum in Collinsville, only one less than last year’s final total.

Event organizer Marge Harmon says she has received commitments for 41 trees, so the final number on display for the Opening Night Gala on Saturday, Nov. 20, should easily exceed last year’s count.

Admission to the gala at the museum, which runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m., is $20. Hors d’oeuvres, desserts, beer and wine will be served.

The trees will be on display at the museum through Dec. 12, when they will be auctioned at 4:15 p.m., with proceeds going to the museum’s building fund.

The museum’s Christmas boutique, which features handmade and recycled items, will be open beginning at 10 a.m. on Nov. 21, and running through Dec. 24. All proceeds from Christmas boutique sales will go toward the museum’s general operating expenses.

‘Trees’ Applications Due

Applications to participate in the Canton Historical Museum’s second annual Gallery of Trees are due on Saturday, Oct. 30. The event will run from Saturday, Nov. 20, through Sunday, Dec. 12.

Individuals, groups, families, churches, organizations, businesses and schools are invited to participate by decorating an artificial tree 2-feet to 6-feet in size and donating it to the museum. The tree may be pre-lit. Use your imagination, but themes must be in good taste.

An “Opening Night Gala” is scheduled for Nov. 20, 7 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $20 per person, but one free ticket will be given for each tree donated. Hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be served, along with beer and wine.

A drawing for the trees will be held by “Tea Cup Auction” on Sunday, Dec. 12, at 4:15 p.m. Proceeds go to the Museum Building Fund.

A registration form can be obtained at the museum, 11 Front St., Collinsville. For additional information, contact Marge Harmon at 860-693-2012 or at harmontravel@comcast.net.

Free Yoga Classes

Folks over 55 are invited to participate in two free yoga classes being offered by Canton Senior Services. The “gentle and meditative yoga programs” will be held at the Canton Community and Senior Center, 40 Dyer Ave., on Thursday, Oct. 28, and Thursday, Dec. 2, from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. both days.

Participants are asked to bring water and a towel or a mat. Call senior services at 860-693-5811 for more information and to reserve a spot.

Halloween Party, Auction

The Canton Community Nursery School’s annual Halloween party and silent auction is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 30, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is open to the public, both kids and adults. Among other things, the silent auction will feature gift certificates from local businesses and theme-based gift baskets. Cookies and cakes will be available in a bake sale. Everyone is encouraged to wear costumes.

Overnight Parking Ban

The town has issued a reminder that an overnight parking ban for all town streets goes into effect on Monday, Nov. 15, and runs through April 1, 2011. Cars parked on the street overnight will be ticketed.

Residents may park in the town hall lot after business hours, but if you do, you must notify the police dispatcher at 860-693-0221 with a plate number and phone number.

The town is reminding contractors and homeowners not to plow snow into the streets.
