Plans for Sam Collins Day are moving forward, with several restaurants, including three newcomers to the Canton scene, lined up for the “Food Court Tent.”
The 16th annual Sam Collins Day is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, with much of the activity occurring at the Canton Volunteer Fire Company Field on Canton Springs Road. The day will start at 7 a.m. with the Canton Lions Club Pancake Breakfast at the firehouse across the street.
The breakfast wraps up at 10 a.m., and then the focus shifts to the field, where visitors will be able to get a “Taste of Canton” at display booths set up for community organizations and local businesses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be activities for children throughout the day.
The Food Court will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Husk, the new taco restaurant scheduled to open in Collinsville on Aug. 23, Char Koon 1800, the recently opened Asian fusion restaurant on Albany Turnpike (Route 44), and Cake Gypsy, a newcomer to Canton Village, have signed up, as have Rice Fields Restaurant, LaTrattoria, Ben & Jerry’s, and Hickory Ledges Farm.
Free shuttle buses will run all day from the field to downtown Collinsville, where additional activities will be taking place, beginning at 10 a.m.
Collinsville merchants will be holding open houses, Gallery 101 Main will feature demonstrations by local artists at various spots throughout the downtown area, and River City Art will sponsor a street art chalk exhibition on River Street.
A walking tour of Collinsville begins at the Canton Historical Museum at 1 p.m.
Local groups and musicians, including The Substitutes, The Con Doty Band, Sweet Heart Mountain and Chris Sheehan, will perform from the porch of the Canton Historical Museum.
The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 26.
