Folks who like to plan ahead may want to take a look at the weekend of Aug. 20, 21 and 22, when there will be a lot going on in Canton.
It all starts on Friday evening, Aug. 20, with the beginning of the 30th annual Lobsterfest from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Canton Volunteer Fire Company on Canton Springs Road.
Lobsterfest continues on Saturday, Aug. 21, from noon to 9:30 p.m., almost the same hours that Collinsville will be rocking with the Downright Music Festival. That event will begin at 1 p.m. and end at 10, and will feature a variety of musical entertainment and other activities.
Lobsterfest begins its final session at noon on Sunday, Aug. 22, three and a half hours after the start of the 19th annual Lobster Loop, a 5K road race and noncompetitive health walk.
The 8:30 a.m. run/walk, which will begin at the Canton Green at Route 44 and Dowd Avenue, benefits the Canton Middle School PTO. Spokeswoman Tracy Reed says the event draw about 400 participants last year, of which only about 25 were walkers. She says organizers are stressing the fundraising aspect of the event with hopes of more walkers participating this year.
The entry fee is the same for runners and walkers: $20 up to and including Aug. 18, and $25 on the day of the event.
