The Suzuki Summer Play Group, an informal gathering of young instrumentalists, is scheduled to perform outside the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream store at The Shoppes at Farmington Valley on Thursday afternoon, July 8, to benefit the Canton Food Bank.
The students from all around the Farmington Valley are expected to range in age from 5 to 16, said play group organizer Candace Freedenberg of Canton. All of the students are learning how to play their instruments via the Suzuki Method.
Because it is an informal gathering, Freedenberg said it was difficult to predict how many musicians would attend, but she guessed the number would be between 10 and 20. Violins, violas and cellos are the only instruments used in the performance of classical music, Freedenberg said.
The play group is expected to tune up at 1:15 p.m. and then perform for about an hour, from 1:30 to 2:30, Freedenberg said. Anyone at The Shoppes or nearby is invited to stop by and enjoy the music. A donation to the food bank would be greatly appreciated.
If weather conditions prevent an outdoor performance, it will take place indoors at the Barnes & Noble store at The Shoppes.
