The Pooch Palace Spa & Salon has opened in a cozy structure at 202 Main St. (Route 44) in New Hartford.
A full service grooming saloon, Pooch Palace offers aromatherapy, nail trimming, facials, vitamin C baths, dry skin therapy and hot oil treatments.
Salon owner Charlene Martel also sells collars, leashes and grooming equipment, including brushes and nail cutters and says she “can teach people how to use” the items.
Martel says she has been grooming dogs since she was 16. Her love of animals began at the age of 9, when she went through a serious illness. When she was ready to leave the hospital, her “parents asked what I wanted for a coming home gift,” Martel recalls. “I said a cat.” A rabbit followed, then dogs. Today, Martel has six dogs at home, four horses and a parrot.
Pooch Palace is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Appointments are preferred but not required.
