![]() Despite a warm week that included temperatures in the 90s, an ever-shrinking but obviously stubborn patch of well-shaded "snow" (packed ice granules is probably a more accurate description) clings to its existence on the edge of a trail Friday, May 28, at Ski Sundown in New Hartford. Photo: dotCANTON ![]() Photo: dotCANTON Lilly Zhao says renovations are “basically 99 percent done” at Char Koon 1800, and that the restaurant that will occupy the longtime site of Margaritas will open this summer, possibly within a month. Zhao, a 24-year-old graduate of Simmons College in Boston, will manage the 130-seat restaurant. Her family owns two other eating establishments, Char Koon in Glastonbury and Forbidden City in Middletown. The Asian Fusion cuisine at Char Koon 1800 will be “very similar” to what’s offered at the family’s restaurant in Glastonbury, “about 90 percent of the same dishes,” Zhao says. Char Koon 1800, which is located at 144 Albany Turnpike (Route 44), is in the process of concluding some late business before the town zoning commission, according to Zhao. Zhao says the “1800″ in the restaurant’s name reflects the history of the structure it occupies: “The building was built in 1800. We wanted that to be part of our name.” Margaritas, which closed in December, opened at the site in 1981. – dotCANTON |
